Prophet-VS V
Exploratory vector synthesizer
Prophet-VS V captures the crisp digital precision and stirring sci-fi sound of an instrument that pioneered vector synthesis. Pick your waveforms, perfect your sound, and explore multiple digital dimensions simultaneously with an enhanced softsynth workflow.
A prophecy retold
The razor-sharp precision and overtone-rich sound of digital; the silky warmth and edgy crunch of analog; the flexibility and expressive creativity of software instruments; why choose one when you can have all three?
Prophet-VS V faithfully unites the crisp sound of digital oscillators with the grainy character of analog filters and VCAs, just like its legendary hardware predecessor. This is vector synthesis brought to life in software form, letting you move between hot and cold, rough and smooth, analog and digital - a hybrid relic reborn for effortless modern production.
4-dimensional sound
Go beyond crossfading and blending waveforms with Prophet-VS V’s authentic joystick oscillator section. Assign any of the 450+ waveforms to its 4 oscillators, and seamlessly modulate and navigate the near-limitless space between them for a breathtaking sonic spectrum.
Unashamedly digital
Prophet-VS V channels the crystalline clarity, rich harmonic depth, and icy layered timbres that early digital synths were known for, then runs it through emulated Curtis analog filters and amps for an abrasive hybrid sound, overflowing with aliasing imperfections; perfect for hyperpop, trap, EDM, and ambient sound design.
Automate, modulate
Prophet-VS V’s sound is all about movement. When you’re not navigating the space between its 4 digital oscillators, employ its LFO groups, flexible envelope generators, and built-in arpeggiator to make your patches dance and evolve in a few clicks.
Simple yet advanced
While the original Prophet VS’ digital architecture afforded it plenty of flexibility, we figured a little more wouldn’t hurt. Take its sound further with tasteful enhancements to original features like the mixer envelope, plus extra modulation and built-in effects - without over-complicating your flow.
The future was digital
At the start of the ‘80s, analog was dominating. But the introduction and gradual widespread adoption of microprocessing foreshadowed a massive change that would shape not just keyboards and synths of the future, but the very music they were designed to make.
Legendary synth designer Dave Smith and his team at Sequential Circuits had been early advocates of microprocessor technology, putting them to use in the Prophet-5 to program and store presets. By the mid-80s, single-cycle waveforms were becoming the go-to for low-memory sound generation. Smith envisioned a way in which this technology could be used to create detailed sound combinations, and in 1986, this vision became a reality with the Prophet VS.
Find your vector
Set a course for a vibrant trip through the sought-after sounds of vaporwave, hyperpop, future bass, ambient film scores, and beyond.
Explore digital sound on an unprecedented scale, with millions of possible waveform combinations, and a multi-dimensional spectrum to discover within each combination with the joystick and modulation interface. The sonic possibilities of this vector synthesis machine are staggering.
Put simply, Prophet-VS V lets you immerse your projects in the fluorescent keyboard tones of the ‘80s, the knife-edge sounds of hardcore and future pop, the iconic suspense of sci-fi soundtracks, and universes beyond.

We’ve rebuilt Prophet-VS V as a standalone instrument - now you can get hands-on with its redesigned main panel, retaining the key features and layout while streamlining it for your DAW workflow.
Overview
Prophet-VS V
1
Oscillator Group
We expanded the original unit’s 4-oscillator principle with easy waveform navigation and real-time displays. Select and fine-tune your sounds from over 450 waveforms, from acoustic plucks to raw wavetable basses, to weave your own unique combination of digital timbres - you can even add your own waveforms.
2
Waveform Mix
Wield Prophet-VS V’s joystick controller to traverse the enormous territory between your 4 oscillators across each axis, unlocking an unprecedented range of sounds.
3
Filter
Give your digital waveforms the real analog treatment with Prophet-VS V’s emulated Curtis 3379 filter, brought to life with our proprietary TAE® technology, ensuring that every note delivers the authentic bark and bite you need.
4
Envelope Group
Savor the experimental results of Prophet-VS V’s authentic 5-stage envelope, complete with customization of each point and a looping mode, for unique sonic animations, plus our addition of a DADSR and multi-stage envelope generator - all available on the main panel. Finally, the Mix Envelope modulates the waveform mix with unique trajectories to introduce exciting movement to your waveform combinations.
5
LFO Group
Dual classic 6-shape LFOs that can be assigned to multiple parameters in Prophet-VS V’s modulation matrix. Try routing them to the Waveform Mix for impossible joystick movements and wildly evolving sounds to match.
6
Voice control
Customize, glide, and unison to add variety and richness to your polyphonic patch ideas, plus harness full control over the panning and stereo spread of each voice - ensuring that Prophet-VS V’s sound is as wide and immersive as you need.
7
Random
A Prophet-VS emulation wouldn’t be complete without the signature Random feature. Instantly randomize any patch, but with the added control of which parameters you alter, and how much randomization you introduce. Controlled chaos.
8
Chorus
Another secret analog weapon in digital clothing, we modeled the original hardware’s BBD chorus circuit to provide that rich stereo swirl that’s so synonymous with digital synths of the ‘80s and ‘90s. Perfect for piano, string, and bass sounds.
9
Arpeggiator
If you’re not a keys player, this simple 6-pattern arpeggiator gives you all the melodic movement you need at the touch of a button. Turn any note or chord into a moving musical component.
10
Voice dispersion
To really squeeze the most realistic performance out of Prophet-VS V’s analog components, we implemented our Voice Dispersion technology, designed to replicate the subtle imperfections and inconsistencies produced by analog circuitry - in this case, aimed at the filter, panning, and VCA parameters.
What we added
If 450+ waveforms and a host of slick digital-synth-inspired features weren’t enough, we expanded Prophet-VS V with a little more of the stuff you might need.
