The Mic Pre circuit is designed using discrete transistors, and is biased to operate in a high current Class A mode. This allows the Mic Pre to perform more sweetly at all gain levels, creating a warmer sounding, less distorted effect than traditional console Mic Pre designs. Most other designs use off the shelf components and single op-amp chips, which are biased into Class A/B mode and therefore suffer from higher crossover distortion, third harmonic distortion and inter-modulation distortion artefacts.
