Faithful to the original. Enhanced for the future.

The Eighty: Redefining Analog Brilliance

The Eighty is a groundbreaking synthesizer inspired by the legendary CS-80, delivering unmatched warmth and expressiveness.

It features three synthesis lines : two that faithfully recreate the linked high-pass and low-pass filters that defined the CS-80’s iconic sound, and a third line, seamlessly blendable through an innovative 2D mixer for expanded sonic possibilities.

With its rich analog character, extensive modulation capabilities, and intuitive interface, The Eighty offers sound designers, producers, and musicians the tools to craft everything from lush pads and soaring leads to deep, textured soundscapes. A modern tribute to a timeless classic.

To faithfully recreate the essence of a synthesizer, the journey begins with its oscillators and filters:

The oscillators and filters have been meticulously modeled to capture the unique characteristics of the CS-80, including its distinctive SAW wave generation with short pulses, delivering unparalleled tone and texture.

Each synthesis line features zero-delay 12 dB resonant high-pass and low-pass filters, designed to preserve the warmth and richness of analog sound while eliminating digital artifacts. The filters’ resonance has been carefully calibrated to ensure smooth sweeps without introducing distortion in the low end, even when the cutoff frequency aligns with the oscillator’s frequency.

Equally essential to the authenticity of the original instrument is the Chorus—a defining feature that adds depth, movement, and character to the sound.

This meticulous attention to detail ensures a faithful and inspiring recreation of the legendary synthesizer.

Interesting Facts

  • Considered a precursor to the all polyphonic synthesizers, the CS-80 add plenty of performance controls, as the poly after touch, keyboard followers and velocity which can be applied to any of the synthesis lines.

  • Notable artists like Stevie Wonder and Vangelis were early adopters of the original unit, incorporating its distinctive tones into their music.

  • Faithfully recreates the tools that shaped Blade Runner and countless other cultural milestones.

  • Optimized to maintain low CPU usage without compromising sound quality.

  • Zero-delay filters eliminate common digital artifacts, offering a genuinely analog-like sound.

HIGHLIGHTS

Recreate Iconic Tracks with Original Presets

Many artists who embraced the original CS-80 relied on its 12 built-in presets, blending them across the two synthesis lines, adding modulations, and layering reverb to craft some of the most iconic tracks in music history.

By exploring the following comparisons, you’ll experience just how deeply we delved into the essence of this machine to capture its sound, personality, and unmistakable vibe. Let your creativity take the lead and relive the magic.

System Requirements

  • Mac OSX 10.13 and later (64 bits, Intel&Apple Silicone): VST2.4, VST3, Audio Unit, AAX (native)

  • Windows 7,8,10 and 11 (64 bits): VST2.4, VST3, AAX (native)

12db Resonant Zero-Delay Filters

Each synthesis line features 12 dB analog zero-delay high-pass and low-pass filters, powered by a uniquely designed envelope. Unlike traditional envelopes, this one lacks a sustain control, instead offering an initial level and an attack level. The initial level determines the starting point of the envelope, while the attack level sets the peak it reaches after the attack phase.

The zero-delay design ensures there’s no spectral warping at high frequencies, a common issue in many digital filters. For example, when the cutoff frequency is set to 10 kHz, only frequencies above 20 kHz are reduced by 12 dB per octave, preserving the integrity of the high-frequency spectrum.

By avoiding oversampling, we maintain the raw purity of the oscillators while keeping CPU usage efficient and resource-friendly.

The Advanced Arpeggiator

A new Extended Arpeggiator has been integrated: Much more than the standard playing up and down the notes of a chord, this arpeggiator added cycled modulations and mute possibilities for sparkling notes that are a full of life.
